American Whitewater is pleased to announce the recipient of our September Volunteer of the Month award: Shanti Savage!

Jay Loschert, AW's Dolores River Stewardship Assistant, had this to say about Shanti:

I'd like to recognize volunteer extraordinaire, Shanti Savage. Shanti is a school teacher and river guide on the San Juan. She is very involved with our new group, Lower Dolores Boating Advocates. In May we had a chance to take members of the local media on a day trip on the Dolores; Shanti was able to join us and offered her raft and guiding expertise at the very last minute. Thanks to her, the writer and photographer had a great time, and Shanti made a very professional impression on them. The article that came out as a result reflected well on the boating community.

Additionally, she scrambled again to take care of a few critical last-minute details for our efforts at the Dolores River Festival. She spent hours with petition and clipboard in hand talking to festival goers about our mission and signing up new AW members. She also has done some education work about river safety in our community using the AW Safety Code booklet.

Thanks and great job Shanti! In recognition of her efforts Shanti will be receiving a custom Destination Shirt from our partners at Kokatat.

Join AW and support river stewardship nationwide!
