HAMILTON, Mont. — A western Montana woman drowned while floating in the Bitterroot River. Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton says the 66-year-old woman from Victor was using an inflatable plastic flotation device to float down the river with a group of people Wednesday evening. Holton says she was sucked into a log jam, but the rest of the people with her didn't see it happen.
After they realized she was missing they asked for help. A fisherman spotted her at the bottom of a 10-foot deep pool. Holton said she had been missing for 30 minutes by then. Her name has not been released.
