ROCKPORT, Wash. - The body of a 10-year-old boy who went missing in July while kayaking in the Skagit River has been found, sheriff's officials said Wednesday.

A Skagit County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said a fisherman found human remains on the bank of the Skagit River near Rockport at around 9:20 a.m. Sunday. Detectives responded to the scene and recovered the remains, which were later identified as those of 10-year-old missing boy Sage Adams of Chehalis.

Sage disappeared on July 7 while kayaking on the river with his father on the Skagit River in North Cascades National Park.  Skagit County Undersheriff Chad Clark said at the time that the father got dumped out of his kayak in some rapids but the boy continued down the river. The father made it back to shore and began searching but couldn't find his son. The father then hiked for several hours through the night to a place where he could get help.

Search teams combed the area for several days, looking for the boy, but all they found was his kayak along the shore of the river about 500 yards north of the Marblemount bridge. The search was called off after a week with no results. Sage's remains eventually were found about eight miles west of Marblemount.
