Update: BODY OF MISSING KAYAKER RECOVERED
News Channel 9, Chattanooga, TN
October 24, 2020
The body of 26-year-old Robert “DJ” Young from Rossville, GA was recovered from Chickamauga Creek just before 1:00 p.m. EDT. TWRA Officers along with STARS Rescue Service, East Ridge Fire, Chattanooga Fire and Chattanooga Police searched last evening and today after Young was reported missing.

Young’s fiancé dropped him off around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the popular kayak launch at Camp Jordan. Kayakers found and reported an overturned kayak around 11:00 a.m. about 300 yards downstream from the launch. Young’s fiancé reported him missing in the afternoon when calls to Young went directly to voicemail. Family members identified Young’s belongings later in the day.
The search for Young was called off around 1:00 a.m., Sunday and resumed later in the morning. Lower water levels on the creek helped with search efforts. Current water levels fluctuate between knee deep and nine feet deep along the search area. Young’s body was transported to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

"Assistant Chief Uselton said a woman contacted authorities after she dropped off her boyfriend to go kayaking at South Chickamauga Creek this morning and he did not come back to be picked up. East Ridge PD says a kayak was located in the creek near the I-75 overpass later on Saturday. The man believed to be missing is Robert "DJ" Young. He is a 25-year-old white man."

Mr. Young was reported missing and his possessions were found in an overturned kayak on Chickamauga Creek on Saturday."
