Man in his early 20s had a stroke at GoForth while on a commercial rafting trip. CPR was performed for a while before he was taken to the hospital via ambulance where he later passed away. They think the stroke was caused due to his paddle's t-grip hitting him hard in the neck where an artery was located and caused an aneurism.
Young dad fighting for life after 'freak accident' just weeks before his wedding
A man is fighting for his life after a freak accident while white water rafting in the US with his fiance. Armani Alicea and his fiance Kelly Drake were enjoying a weekend together in Tennessee, ahead of their wedding, when tragedy struck.
“This sweet family was staying with us in the mountains this weekend when an unfortunate freak accident occurred,” the organiser of a GoFundMe page to support the family wrote. “About half way through the trip, the raft struck a rock causing a huge jolt.
“Armani’s T-handle of his oar hit him in the neck causing an immediate rupture of his Carotid artery causing a thrombotic event in the basilar artery resulting in a massive basilar stroke.” Alicea was airlifted to hospital where he now remains on life support.
The couple shares a two-year-old daughter.
