Man, 25, reported missing after canoe capsizes in Tuscarawas River on Saturday morning

Rescue personnel continue to search the Tuscarawas River from Port Washington to Gnadenhutten for a 25-year-old man, Monday, June 6 in Tuscarawas County. The man went missing early Saturday morning after his canoe capsized. His 27-year-old friend was able to swim ashore and call 911.

PORT WASHINGTON — A 25-year-old man was missing after a canoe capsized in the Tuscarawas River on Saturday morning.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office reported being told at 8:20 a.m. Saturday that a canoe used by two men, ages 27 and 25, had turned over near River Hill Road and South St. Clairsville Road just outside the village of Port Washington.

The Amish continue to gather as rescue personnel continue to search the Tuscarawas River from Port Washington to Gnadenhutten for a 25-year-old man, Monday, June 6 in Tuscarawas County. The man went missing early Saturday morning after his canoe capsized. His 27-year-old friend was able to swim ashore and call 911.

The 27-year-old was able to get ashore and call 911. But he lost sight of the 25-year-old, who has been identified by Sheriff Orvis Campbell as Keith Edward Schlabach of the Baltic area. Firefighters, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the sheriff's office responded for a search and rescue. 

The man remained missing as of Monday morning.
