From Dan Burkitt:There was a fatality on the Lehigh River this afternoon. It was a recreational tuber at Dunbar’s bottling company about 4 miles downriver from Jim Thorpe. Not sure if the cause but no PFD. News articles are reporting it as a rafter but I can assure you it was a tuber. They put on behind us and I spoke to the victims sister while they were retrieving the body. I am trying to contact WFMZ 69 news to have them update it as a tuber with no PFD. This was bound to happen with all of that going on
Ananymous note: The victim is a young adult male of unknown age. I believe four people in tubes, one female and three men, left the rock beach we call Dunbar’s. The victim flipped his tube in the very first series of waves under the Weissport railroad trestle, and was in immediate trouble. His friends got ashore at a lunch stop behind our building. I believe private recreational paddlers found the man’s body downstream, a little more than a mile downstream.
