Search for missing canoer in Yellowstone County
BILLINGS, Mont. - A missing canoer was found dead after being reported overdue Wednesday night. The canoer was first reported overdue Wednesday night after he went out to look for places to hunt this fall. Family did not know where the man entered the water, so deputies with the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office looked for him at several different fishing access sites and notified other counties, according to Captain Captain O'Donnell.
Around 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the man’s pickup, phone and dog were found, along with the canoe on the bank, at Voyagers Rest Fishing Access Site near Ballantine. A search of the area was launched, and a member of a search party organized by the man’s family found him about half a mile downstream Thursday morning. O'Donnell gave a safety reminder to those recreating on the water to always wear a life jacket and bring a phone if possible, and let family and friends know where you’re going and when to expect you back.
