INDIANAPOLIS — Three young girls are now safe after they were rescued by IMPD officers and IFD firefighters after being trapped under a bridge in a river on Indy's north side Sunday. (East 67th Street and College Avenue)
Just after 3 p.m. June 22, crews responded to a report of the girls yelling for help in the waters of the White River near East 67th Street and College Avenue. Water and dive teams, along with IMPD and IEMS, worked together to find the girls and help bring them to safety.
Once crews arrived on the scene, the girls were rescued in about 15 minutes. According to IFD, two of the girls jumped into the river to get a floatation device and were carried away by the current.
IMPD said two police officers swam out to the children and were able to pull them to safety. The IFD dive team arrived on scene and used a boat to rescue the third girl. IMPD confirmed nobody was injured in the incident.

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was rescued from the White River in Indianapolis Saturday night after her kayak flipped over — leaving her clinging onto a tree for two hours.
According to IFD, the woman had been at White River for over seven hours when, around 8:30 p.m. June 22, her kayak flipped over and she fell into the water. Luckily, she was able to make her way to a nearby tree branch where she clung on.
IFD said her husband tried to help her but unfortunately wasn't able to, so he called their daughter who called 911.
At first, crews had difficulty finding the woman and her husband, but eventually found them because the daughter had her mother's location on the Find My app.
Firefighters found the woman and her husband near Sandhurst Drive and Newhart Street and brought them safely to shore.
