Authorities are investigating the cause of death for a Delaware man at the Potomac River near the U.S. 340 bridge on Tuesday, July 8, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police. Natural Resources Police spokesperson Hunter Dortenzo said in a phone interview that it's believed the man had a medical episode, but officials will need to wait for autopsy results.

The man was identified as Cory A. Binkoski, 51, of Laurel, Delaware, according to an email from Dortenzo. Binkoski appeared to be part of a sanctioned inner tubing trip, Dortenzo said.

Natural Resources Police responded to a call for a possible drowning on the river near the U.S. 340 bridge at the Maryland/Virginia state line around 1:20 p.m. on July 8.

Binkoski, wearing a life jacket, was found unresponsive and taken to the Virginia shore by responders who performed CPR, according to Dortenzo. Binkoski was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also responding to the incident was Potomac Valley Fire Company and a boat from the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department, according to a Washington County 911 dispatch supervisor.
