Once the dam opened , he had no time to get to safety. He and another woman were holding onto pillars from an old bridge (originally starting at the dam fishing), the water came and forced Mike Dupre back into the middle. The other person was body pinned against the pillar. Mike Dupre died from anoxic brain injury which resulted in a cardiopulmonary arrest and then death. He was terrified of that water and wouldn't of been in it on his own. He was trying to save the girl he was with. A heroic man named Alex tried to save him afterward but he had swallowed too much water. Once the dam opens there's no time to get to safety. If it sounded that day - it sounds at opening - there's absolutely no time to get out. My kids and I are devastated. Mike Dupre is my father. The girl he tried to save - Mindi Martin- she stole his things afterward and pretended she didn't know him. Delaying any of us from knowing what had happened until late that night.
