Accident Description

Just before 2:30pm on Saturday, Exeter Fire crews were dispatched to assist the Cumru Township Fire Department with a water emergency in the Schuylkill River. It was reported that a kayaker was in the river and hanging onto branches and could not get out. Rescue-Engine 25 and Marine 25 made the response to assist Cumru units. Marine 25 was deployed into the river and brought the patient to shore.

This spot is located near Reading, PA.

Brian Davis on FB: While I have no first hand knowledge of this incident, I am familiar with this location.  That is river left at the old Titus coal power plant that is no longer in operation. That is the intake you see below the rescue boat in the picture. On the opposite side of the river is a wing dam that covers 3/4 of the river (to keep water levels up for the intake). The normal line is to stay river left to avoid the wing dam. It appears they may have gone a little too far left into a strainer.
