Retired East Greenbush pastor drowns on canoe trip www.timesunion.com (06-12-07) A 66-y/o retired clergyman who helped found a church died Sun. (06-10) in the Hudson River in Warren County while trying to right a capsized canoe. Teresa and Jose Rivera, of East Greenbush, were headed south on the river just before 4 p.m. when their rented canoe capsized near an abandoned rail bridge. As the couple tried to turn the craft upright just below some rapids, Teresa Rivera, 59, heard her husband sigh and saw him begin to float downstream. Jose Rivera's body was found floating face down about 45 min. later roughly 2.1 mi. downstream from where the couple capsized.
Teresa Rivera told police she and her husband were wearing life jackets in the canoe rented from Beaver Brook Outfitters in Wevertown.
