A 54-year-old man from Cherokee, Oklahoma died while rafting the Río Grande south of Taos Friday (June 26). Randy Flaming was on a guided trip with the Santa Fe Rafting Company when his raft hit rapids and overturned, ejecting him from the vessel along with two other people, Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe confirmed Monday (June 29). Flaming was quickly rescued by passengers of another raft, the sheriff said. He was reportedly taken to shore where a guide performed CPR. Flaming succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The incident reportedly occurred beside N.M. 68 near Big Rock Rapid and a wooden bridge just north of the line between Taos and Río Arriba counties.
