"Despite the changes in our society, in the sport of river running, and in amount of use on the river, 1998 boaters were not much different from 1975 boaters in their opinions on most issues. However, differences between private and commercial boaters appear to have become more pronounced. Previously, commercial oar passengers were more aligned with private boaters on some issues than with motor trip passengers; today commercial oar passengers are more like commercial motor trip passengers, and less similar to private boaters." A summary of the new report by Virginia Tech's Troy Hall is available at www.rgs.vt.edu/resmag/resmag2001/grand_canyon.html
