Check it out! We're bringing color to the American Whitewater Journal. How cool is that? The world's best and largest non-profit magazine, published, written, and edited by volunteers, is getting color in 2002!

The new Journal features an 8-page color spread including a centerfold of extreme kayaker Jeff Owen hand paddling his Liquid Logic "Huck" off Spirit Falls in Washington state.

Jason Robertson, AW's Access Director recalls, "I sat down with the Liquid Logic guys at Outdoor Retailer, ate some sushi, and had a few drinks with Woody Callaway. One thing led to another, and by the end of the meal, Woody had made it his mission for Liquid Logic to contribute the first ever color centerfold in the American Whitewater Journal."

"We posted the centerfold in our office as soon as the first magazine arrived from the publisher." Risa Shimoda, Executive Director, said, "The Journal has always had the best feature stories, which compliment our conservation and access mission. Now we're raising it another notch and giving our members a little eye candy to highlight our work."

Volunteer editor Bob Gedekoh, an obstetrician by profession, reflected "The color centerfold is simply the most obvious change among many for 2002." Gedekoh continued, "We're still publishing the magazine on high quality recycled paper; but we're using a lighter weight paper to give the Journal a real magazine feel and to reduce postage."

Membership Director Phyllis Horowitz, added "Our members and advertisers have asked for color, and we have found a way to satisfy them while holding down our costs and increasing funding for our Conservation and Access Programs. The new issue features the pending threat from dozens of proposed dams in Canada, which we were able to leverage with the Liquid Logic centerfold."
