Gauge Description:

Flows in the Garlic Falls section will be only slightly less than the readings above for the Kings at Rodgers Crossing.    The various tributaries, Rough Creek, Garlic Creek, Spring Creek, Converse Creek, etc. are all relatively tiny compared to the main river.

Kings Canyon has been run at flows from 400 cfs up to about 3000 cfs.   However, as flows rise from 2,000 cfs to 3,000 cfs, even the best boaters will start portaging more and more rapids and running sneak routes where they can find them.   It does not take much water in this reach to feel, really big.

Read Eric Henrickson's trip report about a portage fest at 3200 cfs.
