Underwood Creek

As of July 2025, there is wood hung up in 'the meanders' (downstream of Hwy.100/Mayfair Road). At lower flows, the overgrown banks make it awkward to exit the creek to portage. At high flows, it may be possible to get around them as water inundates the flood plain area. Additionally, after the confluence with the Menomonee River, there is a tree spanning shore-to-shore at the Hansen Golf Course bridge. The 'root end' is angled upstream against the river-right shore, the 'branches end' (at river-left) is jammed into the bridge. Tall grasses, relatively steep banks, and swift currents here will make getting ashore to portage quite awkward.

As of 2024.03.14: At 115th Street (where the box-culvert divides the flow into three 'tunnels') woody debris extends fully across the center tunnel, ~90% of the left tunnel, and only slightly across into the right tunnel. On this date it was possible to safely pass down the right. It is likely more wood will accumulate with future high-water events, and safe passage could become totally blocked. Anyone planning to paddle this should make certain to stop and check 115th Street culvert before putting on anyplace upstream.
