Enoree River, Greer, SC. 7-16-11 water level 4.1
There are now two cross-stream strainer trees before the first rapid. At low water we were able to go under the main trunk; at higher water level, they could be a problem.
We encountered several other strainers that had been trimmed back for floaters.
Most of the drops had to be examined to find the main water flow point in order to float down; otherwise there were a rock slide.
There is a single rope swing, river right, approx. half way down this section at the end of a nice rapid / drop.
The good 'chute' rapid was doable at this level. It is possible to portage this on left or on the right.
One of our party made it through the chute but flipped at the bottom and had a wet exit and almost lost the paddle.
There are 2 rope swings: 1 river rt and one river left, at the confluence of Abner Creek and Enoree. This marks the first possible take out a trail on river right at top of the high bank, access by going up Abner creek 10-20 feet.
Maybe 100 -200 yards down river from the rope swings is another takeout marked by a huge strainer and tree in the middle of the river. This is where we took out.
Total run time for us was 3 hours because we portaged and watched swimmers on rope swings for a while.
Shuttle is just 20 min. each way from Hwy 14 down to the take out in the Mahaffey Subdivision which is before the 296 bridge.
