Weber Hydro Offline for 2024Kevin Colburn
Apr 14, 2024

The Weber hydro project that dewater's the Scrambled Eggs section was damaged by a fire last year and will not be diverting water in 2024. Inflows to the project will flow over the dam into the Scrambled Eggs section. Since all inflows will be in the river, recreational releases are moot and not being scheduled for 2024. Enjoy the Weber this year, 24/7 when there is sufficient water.

As of 8-24-2023 the road to the park will remain closed. Please do not park on the road or block the gate, you will be towed. They are now allowing pedestrian traffic to the Put in (The Stairs) Please stay out of the area at and above the fire damaged site (the upper diversion area). Trespassing there may result in further closure of the area. Was also reported boatable flows could continue into mid October. Have a safe time and enjoy the Extra Eggs.

The power company has understandably closed the put-in access site and river cooridor for several days to isolate electricity in the area, assess damage, and assess potential contamination. Following this period the plant is expected to be offline for an undetermined amount of time. Please avoid using this section of river until we receive notification that the site is open and the river is safe to use again. We will update further as more information is available.

This year’s Weber releases in Scrambled Eggs will be June 10 & 17 and July 1 & 15 between 10 and 2 pm. As reminder, the boater flows are based on providing all of the water that is in the river with the hydro plant shutdown during the release period. If the flows are high enough the plant may stay on line, but this will only occur if the river flow exceeds 1200cfs (appears likely at least for the first flows this year). Note that currently the river is running about 3000 cfs, and starting to come down, but still potentially up to 10 times what the flows were last year, at least for the June flows…regardless, expect much higher flows than we’ve had since 2017 – in July they could be relatively lower, but only time will tell.

Similar to last year, please respect the Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company’s request that we portage around their facility on the left (and don’t climb on or touch anything), even if the diversion gates are open. Our continued future recreational releases can be at risk if we don’t maintain a good relationship with the USFS and DWCCC and minimize their concerns about negative potential impacts of recreation flows.

Flows to ramp up fast starting 4/1/23.Kevin Colburn

Note that flows in the Weber are expected to begin to escalate quickly from 500 to at least 1500 cfs over several days. Be prepared for quickly rising flows that could top 2000cfs.

2022 Releases ScheduledKevin Colburn
May 27, 2022

Recreational flow releases have been scheduled on the Scrambled Eggs Section of the Weber River for June 4, June 18, July 2, and July 9 of this year, subject to change if unexpected conditions occur. These are the first releases of their kind on this reach, following years of negotiations and studies that led to the issuance of a new 40-year federal license for the hydropower project. Flows will unfortunately be lower volume than expected this year. Check the most recent article for tips on how to utilize these releases. NOTE originally estimated at 200 cfs, the first release will likely be around 300.
