2 - Kanaskat Palmer State Park to Flaming Geyser State Park(Green River Gorge)

Reach banner

We had a beautiful day for a full run of the Green River Gorge meeting at Flaming Geyser at 11am. By the time we were at the put-in at Kanaskat Palmer and ready to launch it was noon. We reached Paradise at 1:30pm and picked up another boater there and continued on a short distance before finding a sunny spot for a lunch break. We were at the take-out around 3:00pm.

A speedy run with just two of us, me in my packraft and Kanako in her hardshell kayak. We put in on river right just above Paradise Ledge and paddled upstream to just below the falls.

Another beautiful day in the gorge!

This was my first time in the Gorge, and it was a beautiful day. I was in my packraft, and we had 1 IK and 2 hardshell kayaks. We put in on river left just below the falls, walking down the steep stairs from the building next to the bridge.

Paradise Ledge has a big log above it, but there's ample room to get around it on river right. Candice showed us the petroglyphs on river left at the beginning of Flaming Geyser SP.

A winter trip on the Green River. I wanted to get a few photos of the signage for a project I am working on to improve and standardize river signage.

We did Lower Green Gorge on Thanksgiving 11/22/2108. The log is broken off. The river is passable. The top of the tree landed on river left at top of the fish hatchery drop. It is clear of the drop entry on the right. There were no blocking issues. -Celia Parker

Sept 29th 2018 Saturday ran Lower Green Gorge. At horseshoe bend there is a tree spanning the river with root wad on river left. We portaged on the right. The river is calm enough in the bend to safely get out on the gravel bar to walk around without any issues. Washington Kayak Club has posted pictures on their forum.

Ran Green today (4/15/2018) @2980 cfs. No wood blocking entire section of river; although there are some spots with wood. All can be avoided.

Enjoying a spring day on the Green River.

The river wide wood on the lower gorge is gone. Also SE Green valley road is closed (possibly though march) just east of the enterance to Flaming Geyser state park. This means an alternate shuttle route will be needed for most.

4/2/14 at ledge drop 2. The left route at the top there looks blocked with a wood pile. This is just below the small rocky island at the top of the drop. We went a bit right of all and at the 1100 cfs we had it was a bit bumpy, but we were able to get back left. From below we were able to see there is a perhaps 15-20 ft. wide passage thru the wood; this is where I usually go but was unseen from above. I think we’ll just have to be very careful there until another big water hopefully removes the wood? Another hunk of wood could totally block the channel. I think I will go slowly to the left of the small island to visualize all this, and be able to hop back right if needed.

The combo lock is back in place but with a keyed lock as well. Please make sure you lock the gate behind you when you go in, and also be sure you link the locks together so that either one will open the chain.

Super important that we keep the gate closed, even if you are about to leave in 10 minutes. Some non boaters got stuck in there and used a chain to pull the gate apart. we are inches away from loosing access here!!

Ran the Upper and Lower Gorge on 03/07/12 at 1300 cfs. The run is completely clear of wood hazards. The Nossle is clear! One large log wedged on Stano rock at Let's Make a Deal but easily bypassed on left.

Washington State has a confusing array of passes to public lands. American Whitewater has advocated for consolidation of passes and fees into a simpler and easy-to-understand system.

The 2009 Green River clean up provided opportunities for boaters to enjoy the river and then celebrate with Wolf Bauer, who recorded the first descent of the Green River Gorge in the 1950's and led efforts to protect the gorge. He was recognized for his efforts as the lodge at Flaming Geyser State Park that is named in his honor.

A beautiful day to be out enjoying the Green River Gorge and taking part in the Green River Cleanup. The Green River Gorge Conservation Area is recognized in Washington State Statute. Land and Water Conservation Fund was responsible for key acquisitions of state park lands that provide access to the river.

Greetings,

Hi Folks, I'm a Ranger at

Kanaskat-Palmer State Park. I have a

safety concern to voice. This last

weekend we had some nice weather

and the first release of water from the

dam in a long time. I enjoy rafting and I

know how excited people are to get

into the Green River. However, there

has been a huge problem with

speeding through both

Kanaskat-Palmer and Flaming Geyser

Parks. I personally saw a couple dozen

kayaker's doing 30-40 in the 15 MPH

zone last Saturday alone. I don't know if

they were all members, but I did see

some decals. We are very concerned

with the safety of both visitors and

employees, so maybe people can

watch their speed a little better.

Otherwise some traffic infractions may

be written, and nobody really wants

that. Thanks for listening.

A trip from Kanaskat Palmer down to Paradise. I had the video camera out for most of this trip so only caught a few still images.
