The last bit of white water before the dam portage, has two strainers across whole river . Higher water you won't even see them , be aware.

Some notes on running:
- Broken dam, most fluid route center right. Boat scout before taking it.
- Right channels at the islands are generally safer because of eddies and ability to boat scout.
- Last drop in gorge easiest on left or far right (boofing off rock)

Current strainers to watch out for:
- big one below cresent street bridge rapid. visible from road. stay far right.
- where river turns left under railroad bridge, big strainer on right behind bridge, left channel around the island right after is fully blocked.
- other strainers avoidable via boat scouting.
- YMMV.

Quaboag wood report. (Jim M)

There's no need to get out of your boat anywhere on river.

That being said, there's a log across the narrow section below the Mouse Hole but it's underwater at the 4.5 foot water level. Just stay away from the far left. Right before arriving at the big pool below the Mouse Hole rapid is a tree laying across the river but it's easy to pass to the right of it.

At the first RR Rapid the right channel is blocked by a river wide tree. You might be able to squeeze around the right end of it but I'm not sure. The left channel is wide open.

At the first island rapid the right side has a tree going almost across the river but you can pass to the right of it. The left channel has no wood in it.

The left channel of the second island rapid is blocked by a big tree right at the start of the rapid so you must go right. The right channel is wide open as well as the gorge.
There's bits of wood here and there, mainly where the river is wide, but it's all easily avoidable.

Ran yesterday around 5.7. Highest I've seen it at. River features still very fun. Still no portages required, but combination of low hanging trees that could fall, and some trees we floated over that would be a problem at lower levels will continue to demand very careful attention if you paddle it. As of June 13th, another 1-2 inches of rain is expected later this week.

Ran today at 5.0, plenty of strainers and sweepers to keep you busy, but nothing required portaging. Really fun, all my previous runs were 4.1-4.2 so this was quite an improvement, one wave train in the gorge had ~4' waves. Great day, no swims. Have fun but be careful with all the wood.

Best after paddle food/ice cream: JANINE'S FROSTIE!!! http://www.janinesfrostee.com/ 149 Eat Street, Ware, MA North of the Quabog, on Route 32. Cheap prices, and hits the spot.

Swimming the Devil's Gourge. Went sunny side up about a quarter mile from the gourge, couldn't eddy out.
