During the federal hydropower relicensing process, American Whitewater negotiated annual fall releases from PG&E’s Poe Dam to provide whitewater recreation opportunities on the North Fork Feather River’s Poe Reach. In 2026, these releases will be on October 10-11 and October 24-25.
The Poe Run is the lowermost run on the North Fork Feather. This seven-mile-long reach comprises two distinctly different runs: Poe Canyon (IV/V) and Bardees Bar (III/IV). There is an access road at the mid-point at Bardees Bar that enables boaters to do the just the Class IV/V reach or the lower Class III/IV reach, or both.
