St. Patrick’s Day Opening of the Lower Cispus Take-out!

Kayaker’s, Rafter’s and Canoeists wanted for the St. Patrick’s Day Opening, for a lack of another name for this informal un-sponsored event, of the Lower Cispus take-out on March 17th. The plan is to leave the Mt. Adams Café in Randle, Washington (located at Highway 12 milepost 115) at 11:00 am sharp! For those unfamiliar with the area, we will caravan to the put-in at Twin Cedars about one mile above the Iron Creek Campground and shuttle vehicles to the New Lower Cispus take-out, just off the 300 road at Copper Canyon Creek, on the Scanewa Reservoir. The gate will be opened from approximately 11am to 5 pm.

Chris Wittenfeld WKC and Tina & Eric Myren WRRR will lead trips down the Lower Cispus River, and everyone is invited. The Lower Cispus is a great introductory class -III run, but watch out for the tricky little leprechauns hiding in the rock gardens--they can be full of surprises. The Lower Cispus has a wilderness feel, a long pool drop nature with straight forward splashy chutes, making it a nice run for the whole family. Some of the area clubs will be leading trips. Other individuals or groups may join the gala event but must assume their own liability and risk.

After a day on the Cispus, individuals may wish to rendezvous at the Big Bottom Bar & Grill in Randle for great burgers and fries. Some small gifts and cash prizes will be raffled off, for those that participated in the day’s event. We thank Port Blakely Tree Farms, the major land owner in this area, for helping us find a solution to access issues on this river. We are still working on a few management issues but we should be proud of the progress we have made and this is an opportunity to celebrate.
