500,000 acre-feet will now be released from the Flaming Gorge Reservoir through 2022.
The 2002 Plan by the Upper Division States and Reclamation do not announce ranges of recreational flows.
From Tony Mancuso, Utah DNR Forestry, Fire and State Lands:
On July 10th, 2021, the discharge of the Green River near Green River, UT dropped below 1,300 cubic feet per second - the estimated threshold for usability of the Tusher Diversion Dam Boat Passage. Pursuant to Special Use Lease Agreement 300-00052, and the Tusher Diversion Operations & Maintenance Plan, when flows in the Green River at Green River, UT drop below 1,300 cubic feet per second; the Green River Canal Company will notify the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands if they intend to stop log the boat passage in the interest of 1st and 2nd priority water rights. As of the morning of July
14th, 2021, the operator has not indicated their desire to stop long the boat passage. The Green River at Green River, UT has dropped below 1,300 cfs only 5 times in the last 15 years.
The portage around the diversion dam is on the East side of the Green River, or “river left”. It is recommended that boaters who plan to use the Tusher Diversion Boat Passage exercise extreme caution, scout ahead of their planned runs, and maintain an up-to-date awareness of Green River flows. Always tell someone where you are going, and when you plan to return. Boaters should not depend on the usability of the Tusher Diversion Boat Passage for planning and implementing river trips.
Joe Hutch is now a solid class IV at higher flows w/ big boat eating wave-train. Bugs very bad at high flows. Definitely scout Three Fords from a downstream perspective (wish I had!!). Some real surprises hidden in there. It's a long, long swim.
