We are looking for some volunteers to help on the Winnipesaukee trail & river maintenance work day scheduled for this Saturday,October 28th. The Winnipesaukee river is in the process of being shut down to 50 cfs for a two week period to allow for hydro power dam maintenance and river bank cleanup. Jason Robertson Named BLM Director of Wild and Scenic Rivers

FERC completes favorable review of whitewater for North Fork Rogue (OR)

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released their Final Environmental Assessment (EA) on the North Fork Rogue’s Prospect Hydroelectric Project (P-2630). Last week NOAA Fisheries released their Biological Opinion on the Condit Dam removal (read full document). This document represents one of the critical final steps in the dam removal process. Judge Dismisses Chattooga Case

On Friday, October 6th, 2006, Senior United States District Judge William C. O’Kelley dismissed a lawsuit against the US Forest Service regarding a ban on canoeing and kayaking down the upper Chattooga River.  The plaintiffs, a group noncommercial whitewater paddling groups and individuals led by American Whitewater, are surprised and disappointed by the decision and will appeal immediately. On September 20th, Federal Judge Elizabeth Laporte of the U.S. District Court in San Francisco reinstated a ban on road construction in existing inventoried roadless areas.
