Dave Hough, the managing partner of Mountain Streams & Trails, has signed an agreement with non-commercial whitewater paddlers to allow continued use of the popular Cheat and Big Sandy River takeout at Jenkinsburg, WV. A controversial land swap is being planned for Colorado’s Blue River, a tributary that enters the Colorado River just above Gore Canyon.  Under the proposal, a large protion of the publicly owned Blue River would become privately owned.  We encourage concerned paddlers to contact the BLM to learn more, or to attend several meetings planned in early August.  AW will be reviewing the situation and filing comments, and we encourage all Blue River paddlers to do the same.  An open house

Contribute to the Woods Ferry Rd Upgrade

There are real problems ahead for Gauley access this fall. The only legal access remaining is the old Woods Ferry Road, which needs a lot of work between now and then to accommodate the people who want to use it. Gauley Access Closure Threatened

American Whitewater was notified late last week that two outfitters will discontinue their long-standing policy permitting private paddlers to access West Virginia’s Gauley River at Mason’s Branch, Woods Ferry, and Bucklick.
