The event focuses on bringing people to the area to enjoy a weekend of outdoor activities, showcase whitewater paddlesport and raise funds and membership for American Whitewater. A controversial land swap is being planned for Colorado’s Blue River, a tributary that enters the Colorado River just above Gore Canyon.  Under the proposal, a large protion of the publicly owned Blue River would become privately owned.  We encourage concerned paddlers to contact the BLM to learn more, or to attend several meetings planned in early August.  AW will be reviewing the situation and filing comments, and we encourage all Blue River paddlers to do the same.  An open house

Gauley Festival, the nations largest gathering of paddlers and AW’s largest fundraiser, only happens because of the efforts of hundreds of volunteers. This year we need a few individuals to step forward and help run some critical areas for the festival. Here are some vital positions needed at this years festival:Front Gate Team Leader:The front gate leader is responsible for the smooth running of entrance to the festival, organizing volunteers to collect entrance fees, camping fees, and pass out information

Background The Cuyahoga River played a pivotal role in the birth of the nation’s river conservation movement. The river experienced several fires throughout the 20th century that were fueled by industrial pollution, but it was the 1969 fire that focused national attention on the problems of water pollution affecting our rivers. Groundbreaking legislation soon followed including the Clean Water Act. For its role in the environmental movement, the Cuyahoga River was designated an American National Heritage River in 1998. The

At a West Virginia Tourism Commission meeting on July 23, Betty Carver, Tourism Commissioner, announced that the State’s Tourism Division will provide gravel for Woods Ferry Road improvements. This assistance from the state helps to secure mid-river access for this Gauley season. American Whitewater requested that the Gauley access issue be placed on the Commission meeting agenda. The WV Tourism Division took a clear leadership role and engaged the Governor’s Office with a request for mid-river access assistance. These actions
