Tallulah 2002!

Last fall’s Tallulah River releases were the most popular ever, with as many as 400 boaters climbing down the 653 steps into one of the south’s premiere whitewater runs. With this increase in use, the need for volunteers, and the need for us to tread lightly increases. It also increases our chances of getting more releases in a few years. We would like to thank all of the stellar volunteers from last fall, all the respectful boaters, and the weather

FOIA Explores Chattooga Headwaters Closure

American Whitewater is seeking to learn more about why the headwaters of the Chattooga river were closed to boating in the mid-1970’s. Our volunteers and representatives have made dozens of attempts to find a definitive answer to this question. In early 2002, we felt that we had exhausted all publicly available opportunities to learn this information and had no alternative but to ask the Forest Service to make the information readily available through the attached Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
